Description
This West Virginia Statehood Issue stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of West Virginia’s admission into statehood. The territory obtained statehood in 1863. The territory was originally a part of the state of Virginia. As a result of the Wheeling Convention, West Virginia was the only state in the Union to secede from a Confederate state during the American Civil War. The stamp features an image of a map of West Virginia and its state capitol building.
