Description

This Nebraska Statehood Issue stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of Nebraska’s admission into statehood. The Nebraska Territory was created and organized by the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854.The act also essentially repealed the Missouri Compromise; it allowed the settlers of the land to determine if they would allow slavery in the new territory. Nebraska chose to exclude slavery from the territory. The land was originally a part of the Louisiana Purchase. The territory obtained statehood in 1867. The stamp features an image of a Hereford steer and an ear of corn.
