Description
On September 18, 2008, at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts, the Postal Service issued a 42-cent Bette Davis commemorative stamp in a pressure-sensitive adhesive pane of twenty stamps. Richard Sheaff of Scottsdale, Arizona, designed the stamp.
This stamp is the fourteenth issuance in the Legends of Hollywood series. Artist Michael J. Deas of New Orleans, Louisiana, based his painting for the stamp on a black and white still photo of Bette Davis made during the filming of "All About Eve" (1950), in which Davis brilliantly portrayed aging Broadway star Margo Channing.
Sixty million stamps were printed in the offset process with microprinting "USPS" by Ashton Potter (USA), Ltd.
