1992 FAF: Creativity and Resistance: Maroon Culture in the Americas
Description
Carved, incised, and painted cedar building component piece that includesan 8-point star at the apex, and side decorations that incorporate the Suriname flag (a yellow star on a red center panel, banded by white and green stripes. In the center of the cross-piece is an intricately carved bas-relief of an interwoven pattern (unpainted) with red, yellow, and white horn-like shapes extending from either edge. All painted areas were lightly incised prior to painting, helping to keep the pattern crisp.
