Description
This Puerto Rico Election Issue stamp commemorated the first gubernatorial election in the Territory of Puerto Rico. Originally ruled by Spain, the country ceded the colony to the United States in 1898 as a result of the Spanish-American War. Puerto Rico became a United States territory as part of the Jones Act of 1917. The stamp features a Puerto Rican farmer holding a cogwheel and ballot box.
