32c Wisconsin Statehood single

The Postal Service commemorated the 150th anniversary of the admission of Wisconsin into the Union with the issuance of a 32-cent Wisconsin Statehood commemorative stamp on May 29, 1998, in Madison, Wisconsin.

The stamp features a photograph of a rural Wisconsin setting taken by photographer Zane Williams of Madison, Wisconsin.

Wisconsin became the 30th state admitted to the Union on May 29, 1848. Wisconsin is an eastern north central state bounded on the north by Lake Superior and Upper Michigan, on the east by Lake Michigan, and on the south by Illinois; on the west it is separated from Iowa and Minnesota by the Mississippi River and one of its tributaries, the St. Croix. The state is noted for its varied and beautiful scenery, its lakes and forest region in the north being a favorite vacationland.

Designed by Phil Jordan of Falls Church, Virginia, the stamp was issued in a self-adhesive pane of twenty, and was printed by Sennett Security Products in the gravure process.
