Description

he Postal Service welcomed the holiday season by issuing seven holiday themed stamps:
Four 32-cent Holiday Contemporary stamps were issued on September 30, 1995, in North Pole, New York. Designed by John Grossman and Laura Alders of Richmond Point, California, the stamps feature four different designs from the Victorian and Edwardian eras: Santa going down the chimney, Santa making a sled, a boy and his tree, and a child with a handmade puppet. The Holiday Contemporary stamps were issued in a pane of fifty, a booklet of twenty, and a peel-and-stick booklet of twenty. The stamps in all formats were printed by Avery-Dennison in the gravure process.
The 32-cent Children Sledding stamp and 32-cent Midnight Angel stamp were issued on October 19, 1995, in Christmas, Florida. Designed by John Grossman and Laura Alders of Richmond Point, California, these stamps feature greeting card scenes from the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The Children Sledding peel-and-stick ATM stamps were printed by Avery-Dennison in the gravure process. The Banknote Corporation of America printed the Midnight Angel peel-and-stick stamps in the offset process.
A 32-cent Madonna and Child commemorative stamp was issued on October 19, 1995, in Washington, DC. The stamp was issued in a pane of fifty and a booklet of twenty. Designed by Richard D. Sheaff, of Boston, Massachusetts, the stamp features Florentine artist Giotto di Bondone's "Madonna and Child," which dates to the early fourteenth century. The painting, which is part of the Samuel H. Kress Collection in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, was created on wood as the central part of a five-section altarpiece. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing produced the stamps in the offset/intaglio process.
