Object Details

Description

Four commemorative stamps honoring classic films from Hollywood's golden era were dedicated on March 23, 1990, in Hollywood as a prelude to the 62nd annual Academy Awards. 1990 marked the 50th anniversary of each film's having received nominations in 1939 for the 1940 Academy Awards.
Each stamp in the block of four 25-cent stamps resembles a miniature movie poster. The stamps feature Gone with the Wind and two of its stars, Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh as Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara; Beau Geste, whose stars included Gary Cooper; Stagecoach, in which John Wayne played the role of the Ringo Kid; and The Wizard of Oz, whose cast included Judy Garland as Dorothy. Dorothy's dog Toto also is pictured on the stamp.
