Paul Revere, American, 1735 - 1818
Description
This Liberty Issue stamp depicts Paul Revere. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1735. He served during the French and Indian War. Afterwards, he returned to Boston to assume control of his family’s silver shop, where he became an accomplished silversmith. Revere is best known for his ride to warn the colonial militia against the approach of British forces before the battles of Lexington and Concord, as dramatized in the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, "Paul Revere's Ride."
