Our Shared Future: Reckoning with Our Racial Past
Our Shared Future: Reckoning with Our Racial Past is an ambitious commitment to the nation that will draw on the full breadth of Smithsonian expertise, research, and collections. Through virtual town hall conversations, in-person and digital exhibitions, film screenings, teacher training programs, and more, the Smithsonian will provide context and tools for people to talk openly about their experiences and take action against racism and intolerance.
Beginning this summer, programming will be presented nationally and locally, engaging people in communities across the country on issues relating to race and equity.
Mission
To explore the history and legacy of race and racism in the United States and globally. The initiative seeks to spark positive social change and build a more equitable shared future through interdisciplinary scholarship, creative partnerships, dialogue, and engagement.
Vision
To create a hopeful future for all people using history and reconciliation to contextualize and transform our understandings and responses to race and racism.
