Smithsonian Journeys New Reduced Prices for 2009 Small Group Tour Collection

News Release

November 6, 2008

This fall, Smithsonian Journeys introduces its international collection of small group tours featuring newly reduced prices for 10 destinations in 2009. A variety of custom-designed itineraries are available that maximize learning and minimize hassle for groups of 18-24 participants. Each tour features both the highlights of the region and free time for independent exploration—complemented by access to local exclusives to give travelers meaningful cultural immersion. All pricing includes international airfare, extensive sightseeing and entrance fees, top accommodations, most meals and the services of both an expert study leader and a tour manager.

Each of the 10 destinations offers at least two departure dates for travelers’ convenience, with the popular “Paradores and Pousadas” $400 off the previously published price, running six times throughout 2009. This tour is highlighted by accommodations at historic inns, including a 14th-century Arab fortress in Carmona and a former palace in Ubeda.

One of the five new small group tours in 2009, “St. Petersburg and the Baltic Capitals,” $300 off, takes travelers through four historic cities of the former Soviet Bloc. Beginning in Vilnius, Lithuania, a UNESCO World Heritage site, this tour explores the medieval past of the region’s cultural centers and contemporary life during a special lunch with a St. Petersburg family.

Other reduced-price small group tours include, “Legendary Turkey and the Turquoise Coast” $200 off, plus $100 off the extension; “France through the Ages,” “Norwegian Splendor” and “Enchanting Ireland,” each $300 off; “Pearls of Dalmatia” and “Discovering Eastern Europe,” each $400 off; and “Exploring Iceland,” $700 off. All discounts are applied on a per person basis from the originally published Journeys price. Total tour costs can be found online at www.smithsonianjourneys.org.
