The Smithsonian Book of Air & Space Trivia is a playful examination of the history of aviation and space exploration. It asks and answers questions about everything from the “firsts”—who was the first person to dine in space?—to the “bests”—what craft set a world altitude record of 72,400 feet in 1935?—to everything in between.

Even the savviest space lovers and the most avid aviation buffs can learn a thing or two, such as: Who earned the nickname “Muttnick”? What toy based on an animated film accompanied astronauts on a shuttle mission in 2000? What were the first airplanes to successfully circle the globe? These questions and the many others that are explored in The Smithsonian Book of Air & Space Trivia are hardly trivial; they help people understand their shared culture and also inspire their curiosity about the world, the skies and the universe.

Many of these questions are illustrated by objects from the collections of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum and its Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Featuring more than 125 treasures from the Smithsonian’s collections, The Smithsonian Book of Air & Space Trivia is a way to inspire the historian and trivia buff in everyone.
