PBS’ Travels with Darley Host Darley Newman to Speak at the Smithsonian

Smithsonian Associates presents an evening with Emmy-nominated television host, writer and producer Darley Newman, Thursday, Aug. 1, at 6:45 p.m. in the Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center. Newman will share insider’s tips on fascinating destinations in Hong Kong and Macao, which she curated while filming a variety of episodes for her popular PBS series Travels with Darley.

As melting pots of cuisine and culture, Hong Kong and Macao are two of the most exciting destinations on the planet, and they are separated by only an hour’s ferry ride. In Hong Kong, Cantonese cuisine, markets, colorful traditions, outdoor adventures, neighborhoods and temples take center stage. In Macao, beyond the skyscrapers, there is authentic Portuguese-influenced food, culture and history to discover. Attendees will enjoy a sneak preview of a brand-new episode devoted to Hong Kong and Macao that will debut in the fall and includes footage of Newman’s bungee from the Macau Tower, the world’s highest commercial bungee, and her drive across the newly opened Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge. Newman will also share some of the production crew’s fun filming outtakes. Following the presentation and screening, guests will enjoy a light reception featuring Asian appetizers and drinks provided by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and Macao Government Tourism Office.

Travels with Darley takes viewers on U.S. and international adventures with a focus on the history, food, music and art that reflects diverse cultures and traditions. The series is on PBS, Amazon Prime and as video shorts on AOL and MSN. An engaging speaker and travel expert, Newman is also known for her adventures horseback riding the globe for the popular PBS series Equitrekking.
