“Journey to the Stars” at the Smithsonian’s Albert Einstein Planetarium

Smithsonian Theaters present a new digital dome planetarium show, “Journey to the Stars.” This new show will debut Oct. 2 at the National Air and Space Museum’s Albert Einstein Planetarium at Sixth Street and Independence Avenue S.W. in Washington, D.C.

“Journey to the Stars” takes viewers on an intergalactic journey through time and space to explore the life cycles of the stars in the night sky. Audiences will travel back 13 billion years to witness the formation of the universe. From there they will return to the present day to examine the stars and then advance 5 billion years into the future to learn about the inevitable fate of stars such as the sun. The show delivers a visually stunning presentation and uses the immersive 70-foot (21.3-meter) dome.

“Journey to the Stars” uses images captured by instruments in space and on Earth and those from stunning new computer-generated representations based on physics simulations. Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, “Journey to the Stars” will shed a new and bright light on how stars are born, tell why they are important to the universe and how they eventually die out.

“Journey to the Stars” was developed by the American Museum of Natural History with the cooperation of NASA and more than 40 leading scientists in the world, including experts from the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.

“Journey to the Stars” opens Oct. 2. The 25-minute show will be featured up to eight times daily. Tickets will be available Friday, Sept. 18, and may be reserved up to two weeks in advance. The public may call (202) 633-4629 or visit www.si.edu/imax for information or to purchase tickets.
