This major exhibition, marking the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, traces the evolution of the British royal pleasure palace, beginning with its simple 'farmhouse' concept, through its brilliant and scandalous heyday, to its neglect under Victoria and ending with its restoration in this century.
On loan from the Pavilion are designers' drawings, paintings and sculptures, decorative objects, furniture, and interior architectural and ornamental elements. Objects from Buckingham Palace are on loan from Queen Elizabeth II. Also on view from Cooper-Hewitt collections are original sketches and renderings made for the interiors of the Pavilion.
