See 38 paintings of Americans painted by the English artist in America, 1784-1788; including NPG's four Pine portraits—Robert Morris, Thomas Stone, Mrs. Stone and George Reed—as well as likenesses of George Washington, his adopted grandchildren and Benjamin Franklin.
During the years Pine spent in this country, he build the nation's first art exhibition gallery.
