See more than 100 photographs taken by itinerant photographers that document American life in the Northwest and Southwest in the last half of the 19th century. Shots of wagon trains, miners panning for gold, saloons and saddlery shops of early Western towns, homesteaders in wooden shacks, panoramic views of scenery and studies of elderly frontiersmen as well as birthdays, weddings and funerals—not to mention an occasional hanging—are included.
