Until recently, orchids have been considered finicky, difficult, and prohibitively expensive; but with the new technologies, they have become ubiquitous, appearing in movies and TV shows, hotel lobbies and information desks, as well as windowsills and greenhouses around the world. This exhibition discusses this transformation from how these beautiful plants were discovered and collected from the wild to how they were transported, cultivated, hybridized, propagated, and finally mass marketed to a delighted audience of plant lovers. A model G toy train winds through the exhibition.
