Two hundred fifty objects are assembled from museums and private collections of 25 countries for this major traveling exhibition celebrating the 14th centennial of Islam, its history and its legacy to the Western world. Objects include scientific instruments (more than a dozen astrolabes), manuscripts, paintings, Persian prayer rugs, textiles, ceramics, metalwork, glasswork, coins, and furnishings. Calligraphy appears not only in manuscripts, but in objects of all kinds.

Organized by Islam Centennial Fourteen, the exhibition traveled within the U.S. before coming to NMNH.
