Greenland

The museum explores the history and culture of Greenland through several exhibitions and display cases—featuring artifacts, photographs, and contemporary art—on view in various locations throughout the building.

• Encounter features historical photographs taken during America's first cultural expedition to Greenland, organized by painter and photographer William Bradford.
• Frozen Moments presents images by noted Greenland photographer Ivars Silis that capture nearly 35 years of his life in Greenland, including the impact of Home Rule, Greenland's changing culture, and magnificent landscapes.
• New Beginning introduces the contemporary art and culture of Greenland through a variety of works by a young generation of artists.
• East & West Greenland Cases introduce the rich traditional cultures of Greenland. The West Greenland case displays ethnographic artifacts collected during expeditions in the 1800s and early 1900s. The East Greenland case features more traditional materials and craftsmanship, including artifacts collected during an 1881 expedition led by polar explorer Gustav Holm.
