East Bank Artists

For many artists living east of the Anacostia River, options are quite limited for exhibiting artwork in far northeast, southeast, and southwest Washington, D.C. Even fewer galleries across the metropolitan area are open to inexperienced artists. With this exhibition, the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum opens its doors to artists from our local community. Works by professional artists, including John N. Robinson, Larry Erskine Thomas, and Evelyn Ware, are in conversation with the work of a diverse group of new artists, ranging from H.D. Woodson Senior High School students to prisoners at Lorton Reformatory, to patients at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and retired government workers.
The exhibition opening features a performance by the H.D. Woodson Senior High School Male Chorus, directed by Samuel L.E. Bonds, and children from the Morgan Community School, directed by Sarah Daye and Melanie Russell.
