Some 200 objects are presented in this major exhibition on the ancient culture in the area now known as Ban Chiang in northeastern Thailand. Rediscovered in 1966, the presence of extremely old bronze and iron objects has caused scientists to rethink traditional theories about the development of civilization in Southeast Asia, long considered a mere reflection of Chinese and Indian cultures.

On view are pottery, bronze and iron necklaces, bangles, bracelets, and iron spear points, along with a "touchable" re-creation of a typically elaborate burial site. Labels are in Thai and English.

Organized by SITES and the University of Pennsylvania. Guest curator, Joyce White, University of Pennsylvania.
